What this new Basic Education Model means
With dis new system, government wan change di 6-3-3-4 education model go 12-4. Dem still dey find approval from National Council on Education (NCE) to make 16 years di minimum age wey pikin fit enter university for Nigeria.
Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, talk dis one on Thursday for Abuja during di 2025 extraordinary National Council on Education meeting. Di meeting gather education commissioners from di 36 states and FCT, plus agencies wey dey under di ministry.
According to di minister, by putting secondary education under basic education, students go enjoy learning reach 16 years without wahala.

Alausa talk say di new policy go help stop school dropout because e go remove financial and system wahala wey dey make students abandon school. E go still help expose dem to vocational and business skills early, so dem go fit choose between higher education or work.
E talk say di plan go align Nigeria education system with international standard and help improve di quality of education for di country.
Di minister also talk say dis reform go reduce child labor and social problems wey dey come from early school dropout. To make di new system work, government go do policy reform, build more schools, train and employ more teachers, find better funding, and improve di curriculum.
